Brighter Communities Worldwide launches its Christmas Appeal to help families in Kenya survive the pandemic, where only 10% of the population are fully vaccinated.
In Kenya, it is not just about the vaccines, it is about the logistics of delivering the vaccines. Healthcare facilities are under immense strain and don’t have the resources for vaccine rollouts. Handwashing is critical to prevent the spread of the virus but the majority of homes don’t have running water and soap is a luxury.
BCW want to stress that every euro donated will help the families in the fight against Covid -19. A donation of as little as nine euros would provide soap and water for proper handwashing facilities.
Maria Kidney, Co-Founder of Brighter Communities Worldwide said:
“Right now this pandemic is about day to day survival for the communities in Kenya, as COVID-19 is far from over. Everything is more difficult now. Families are struggling without income or economic support, health facilities are overwhelmed and progress on issues like gender-based violence have gone into reverse. Lives are in danger. Our programmes provide the solutions to make sure these families are not left behind as the rest of the world emerges from this pandemic.”
BCW is urging the public to make a much-needed donation and to help them support the families of Kenya in their fight against the pandemic.
Maria continued: “The pandemic has left workers without an income and families are going hungry. Schools have now reopened but a rise in teenage pregnancy and lack of school fees mean that 16% of girls & 8% of boys never returned to education. We are asking the public to act in solidarity across the world and to help us with our appeal. No one is safe until we are all safe.”
BCW supports health facilities with training for health workers, resources like fridges and transport cooler boxes, tents for setting up clinics, as well as supporting vulnerable households with handwashing soap and water.
