People supported by Cope Foundation, their families and staff are preparing to take on the 43rd Echo Women’s Mini-Marathon, which takes place on Sunday the 22nd of September.
Cope Foundation is urging people from across Cork city, county and beyond to mobilise their teams and join #TeamCope. This year, the race kicks off at a later time of 1PM, with a 5KM distance to cover.
The Echo Women’s Mini-Marathon is a great fundraising opportunity for Cope Foundation, which supports over 2,800 children and adults with an intellectual disability and/or autism across Cork city and county to live, ‘Your Life, Your Way’. The organisation is fundraising for specific housing projects to empower people to live in their own home and be truly part of their chosen community. Taking part in the mini-marathon will make a significant impact for the Cork based organisation.
Donna Roche, Chairperson of Cope Foundation’s Board of Directors is leading the charge and asking the Cork community to get behind Team Cope. She says; “The marathon is an accessible race for all to enjoy. As a Cork woman, and as newly elected Chairperson of the Board, I am immensely proud to be taking part and highlighting the importance of this event. Not only as a vital fundraiser, but as a great team building experience. I will be walking in the race and I’m looking forward to seeing a strong Cope Foundation presence on the day.”
Noreen Horgan, a person supported by Cope Foundation says: “It’s a fantastic day out, there’s always a great buzz in the city. I’ll be taking on the race with my friends, it’s a day we all really enjoy getting involved in.”
Anita Kelleher, Cope Foundation staff member adds: “It’s such an empowering event for everyone, it’s great to see women and men get involved. It makes me proud to be part of Team Cope. If anyone wants to get involved and join us, please do. You will be welcomed with open arms and enthusiasm to beat the band!”
