Horizons, formerly Cope Foundation, is looking to recruit care assistants and staff nurses for its locations across Cork city and county.
The non-profit organisation is holding a recruitment day in the Metropole Hotel on Wednesday 26th February from 1pm – 7pm, where the HR team will meet with people who are interested in the roles on offer.
Horizons, which supports more than 2,800 children and adults with an intellectual disability and / or autism to live a life of their choosing, recruited over 200 people in 2024.
Derry is a person supported by Horizons. One of his personal goals was to travel to Rome, and that goal became a reality last year.
“It was always my dream to go roaming in Rome. My one wish during the trip was to see the Pope and staff supported me to make it happen. I will never forget it. I’m already planning my next trip – the world is my oyster!”
Mary Harrington is a support worker with Horizons and was among those who supported Derry and helped his dream come true. She explained what it means to be employed by Horizons.
“I have been working with Horizons for the last 17 years and I have loved every minute of it. Derry is supported by Horizons. He is very caring and looks out for his friends. One of his goals in life was to go to Rome and visit the Pope. Staff went above and beyond to make his dream come true. We headed off last October and to say it was the trip of a lifetime is an understatement. And sure enough, he met the Pope. Working with Horizons is fulfilling work, some days are challenging but everyone is here for the people we support.”

“I began my role as Chief People Officer last November and I am delighted to be working with Horizons. The team has been warm and welcoming, and I could immediately see a culture of nurturing and development. Having worked in Human Resource leadership roles for almost 30 years for various companies and industries, both public and private sector, I have gained a wide variety of experience that I intend to leverage to best support the organisation and its staff. The more familiar I have become with Horizons, the greater my respect for the incredible service that staff deliver to the people we support, each day, ensuring they can live ‘Your Life, Your Way’.”
