Yesterday’s (Sunday, July 13th) National Day of Commemoration held at Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Military Road, Dublin brought together national and local dignitaries to honour Irish men and women who died in past wars and those who served in peacekeeping missions worldwide.
Among those in attendance were Tánaiste Simon Harris, Lord Mayor of Dublin Ray McAdam, Lord Mayor of Cork Fergal Dennehy, and Paul Clarke, Marketing Manager for Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann (O.N.E), alongside Tracy Connolly, Member of the O.N.E Board of Directors (Marketing Committee).
The presence and support of these distinguished public figures reflect a shared national commitment to Ireland’s veterans. All expressed deep appreciation for the work being carried out by O.N.E, especially in relation to the organisation’s ongoing expansion of temporary accommodation for ex-service personnel in need.
New housing developments are currently underway in Cork (St Luke’s), Limerick, and Kildare, as part of O.N.E’s strategic growth to meet increasing demand. These units will offer safe, supportive temporary accommodation for veterans in transition, giving them the time and tools to regain stability, independence, and dignity. The ultimate aim is to support their move to permanent council housing when ready.
Tracy Connolly remarked: “Our mission is to ensure that no veteran is left behind. We are building more than accommodation, we’re building second chances. O.N.E remains deeply grateful for the continued partnership and recognition from government leaders, local authorities, and community stakeholders. Together, we are changing lives and strengthening the safety net for those who have served Ireland with honour.
